About LDBL
We are a friendly League involving a dozen or so clubs from North Herts and the surrounding area. Our matches take place in a season that runs from September to the end of May, however many of the clubs play all year round. Teams play with Mavis 370 shuttlecocks (or an equivalent). As the League is affiliated to Badminton ENGLAND, all clubs in it are required to be affiliated too. Further League rules, entry forms, etc. can be found in the league documents section. Enjoy...
Matches are a ‘medley’ format comprising of 6 rubbers (a rubber being a ‘best of three’ games to 21). A team comprises of 3 men and 3 ladies, each playing 2 rubbers.
The Fletcher Cup is a handicapped event based on the players in the teams. The idea being to give the weaker team a helping hand and make the stronger team work!
The League hold two tournaments during the season. One for mixed pairs which is handicapped, the other a fun event for groups of men and ladies.
The Marshall Trophy is a ‘social match’ where the League competes against the Stevenage Badminton League. The format is agreed between the two Leagues each season.
In June the League join up with the Stevenage Badminton League for the annual Presentation Evening. This is always a great fun way to finish the season.
The League is run by a committee, who are all volunteers. If you are a player and want to join the Committee, please contact one of the current members.
